雷暴云生命期内“第一道闪电”也就是第一次闪电，是整个闪电活动的开始，对这种从无到有的“转折点”进行预警预报具有极大的挑战。基于雷达和闪电观测，一些研究指出云内第一道闪电出现滞后于降水雷达捕捉到的对流云早期信号大约10~29分钟。尽管许多研究基于目前学界普遍接受的云初期起电机制（非感应起电机制）🫲🏿，从导致云带电的微物理角度，结合雷达观测，提出了对云内第一道闪电的预警预报方法（如“Laksen Area”方法等），但这些方法对云内第一道闪电的有效预警时间仅在4~6分钟。如何改善雷暴云生命期内第一道闪电预警预报？能不能提出更长预警时效的方法？要回答上述问题就必须突破“云内第一道闪电如何发生”这一理论认知瓶颈。该瓶颈的存在也间接影响了基于线性外推方法对随后闪电活动的预警预报结果。
